Put down the chemicals and pick up the natural cleaners instead. Most commercial cleaning products contain chemicals that can really damage your hardwood floors. Non-toxic, Earth-friendly cleaners are much better options and you already have most of them in your house.
Dish Soap
Mixing a quarter cup of mild, chemical-free dishwashing soap with water will work wonders on your floors. Just remember to wring out the mop to get rid of as much water was possible before you put it on the floor because too much water can also damage the floor.
Lemons
Did you know that lemons have antiseptic and antibacterial properties? They are powerful and effective at cleaning grime off of wood floors and will get rid of bacteria at the same time. Just squeeze them into your damp-mopping water for clean, germ-free floors.
White Vinegar
Don’t have dishwashing soap or lemons? White vinegar will also do the trick. Not only will mixing white vinegar with water clean the floors, it will help eliminate odors as well. Since vinegar carries an odor itself, you may want to crack the windows until the floor dries so the odor disappears.
