With Halloween around the corner, it’s only fitting to address some of the horrors that can occur on your hardwood flooring. Today we’ll be talking about stains in your wood, which can cause even the worst nightmares for homeowners. How will I get them out? Do I need to replace my floor? Is my house going to crumble? Before breaking into a panic, just know that there are ways to avoid this catastrophe, and they’re relatively easy to do!

Hydrogen Peroxide works wonders. If you’ve ever been face to face with hydrogen peroxide, you know that it has a loud odor, and a ton of uses. Oddly enough, it works on your floor for stains that have soaked through the finish. Soak a rag in the peroxide and place it over the stain, allowing it to soak in and bleach out the stain. Remove the rag and wipe up any excess you may find, allowing the floor to dry!

Steel Wool. soak a steel wool pad in lemon oil and gently rub the wood on the stain (if white). Once this is done, place a rag with denatured alcohol and ub over the stain for a few seconds.

You can also give a hot iron a go. Place a dry rag over the stain and begin rubbing with a hot iron. Make sure you’re using no steam, and only rubbing for 2-3 seconds at a time. This may lift and remove the stain.

For tougher stains that won’t come out, refinishing the area or replacing the board might be the only real option left. If you’re looking to match the wood with something specific, make sure to visit one of the many convenient locations that Hall Flooring has to offer from New York to CT!
