Old or plain hardwood floors can get boring and dull. Bring your tired old floors back to life with a fresh coat of paint. All you need is the proper materials and tools along with simple painting steps so you can get started on your new project to make your home look stunning. Wow your friends when you tell them your beautiful new hardwood floors were done by you!
What you will need - Notepad, pencil, tape measure, paint chips, floor paint, roller handle, roller sleeve, paint pan, extender pole, drop cloth, painter’s tape, wood floor sander, 150-grit and 220-grit wood-floor sanding sheets, wet/dry vacuum, angled paintbrush, and shoe covers.
Before You Start
- Carefully remove all furnishing from the working space by not scratching the floor.
- With a tape measure take measurements to figure out floor dimensions.
- Sketch the image of the pattern you desire along with the colors you’re going to use.
Step 1: Sand Floors
- Use the wood floor sanders instruction manual to attach sanding sheets.
- First with 150-grit sanding sheets slowly sand each section of the floor by moving from one end to the other, then again with 220-grit sheets.
Step 2: Prepare Floors
- Use a vacuum with proper attachments to remove all sanding dust from the floor.
- Using a damp cloth, carefully clean the entire floor to remove all dust residue.
Step 3: Time to Paint
- Using your angled paintbrush cut and paint background color around all the edges of theroom to prevent ruining your moldings or walls.
- Using you roller handle with your roller sleeve and the paint pan, add 1 solid coat of the background color you added in step 4. Once dry repeat and add the 2nd
- Let dry and check that the whole area is covered and you didn’t miss anything.
Step 4: Measure and Tape off Pattern
- Wear your shoe covers, then using painters tape and your tape measure properly place the pattern you desire. Use small piece of painters tape to mark already painted areas.
Step 5: Paint Accent Colors
- Add 2 coats of accent colors with the roller handle and sleeve alternating between the taped off areas to prevent mistakes and or messes.
Step 6: Remove tape
- Once everything is dry, carefully remove the painters tape by pulling it up and back at a slight angle to ensure a clean removal.
