#TipsTuesday - Prevent Your Hardwood Floors From Fading

I Have Seen Hardwood Floors Fade In Color. Is There Anything I Can Do To Prevent This? Like a good bottle of wine, wood floors become more beautiful with age. Subtle color changes or fading may occur as a result of exposure to UV Rays. This is natural and should not be alarmed if you notice any of these changes to your hardwood floors.

First off, different types of wood have a higher tendency to change color. American and Brazilian cherry tends to show more color change, will more common types such as oak and hickory will experience less change.

With some simple preventive maintenance you can minimize the severity of color change or fading. You can simply move an area rug over different parts of your wood floors to make the fading or color change seem more uniform. You can also use a water-based finish on your wood floors which will generally remain clear over time, minimizing color change.
