Put Your Wood Flooring Scraps To Good Use

Save the scraps! When working with wood for any project, especially flooring, you will inevitably have some leftover planks. Instead of tossing them in the trash, put them to good use with these 5 uses for wood flooring scraps:

  1. Make a decorative door mat - add a decorative mat to your entryway by cutting planks to 18 inches in length, drilling 4 holes (evenly spaced) through the side of each plank and stringing rope through the holes to tie each board together.
  2. Hang a heavy object - heavy objects often require a cleat to hold them up. Cut two pieces of flooring to a length just shorter than the width of the object and screw one piece to the back of the object. Screw the second piece to the wall and lower the object onto the piece mounted to the wall. You now have yourself a means of hanging a heavy object.
  3. Cover your ceiling - tired of looking up at the same boring ceiling? Install lightweight pre-finished flooring perpendicular to the ceiling joists and enjoy looking up at your ceiling again!
  4. Create a picture frame - cut 4 mitered pieces of scrap flooring to fit the size of your glass. Nail frame pieces together and screw a block of scrap wood to the back.
  5. Build a coffee table - need a nice custom-made coffee table for your living room? Now you don’t have to go out and buy one. All you need to do is fit planks together, secure from underneath, and cut off the outside tongue and groove.

Don’t let any of your wood flooring scraps go to waste. There are plenty of uses for your leftover planks that will add beauty and decor to your home.
