How To Fix A Broken Floorboard

Warmth, beauty and a natural look make wood a top choice for flooring, but damages and stains can really drive a homeowner crazy. Sometimes a damaged board can be sanded to remove surface stains or cracks, but when a board is broken replacing it is your best option. Here are a few quick tips for dealing with a damaged or broken floor board:

Warping - a warped board usually comes as a result of water damage. This problem can often be resolved by sanding the affected area with a palm sander. Once the finish is removed, you can get rid of water stains with an oxalic acid solution.

Fill in the cracks - if your floor board has minor chips or cracks, the most effective way to fix the problem is to fill in the cracks with epoxy filler. The filler will bond to the wood and prevent cracks from widening.

Replacing a broken board - a severely broken or damaged board will need to be replaced. The procedure isn’t difficult but it takes concentration and caution. You will need to make some cuts down the center of the board and if using power tools isn’t something you are comfortable with, leave it to the experts at Hall Flooring.
