You can paint the walls and you can paint the ceiling, but painting the wood floor? It’s relatively uncommon to see a painted hardwood floor these days but they were once a staple of interior design. While clear coated hardwood is the preferred option today, painted hardwood is making a comeback.
Thinking of adding some color beneath your feet? Here’s a guide for painting your floors:
You’ll need to scarify the surface of the floor with 150-grit sandpaper and then wash the floor to remove all dust and deposits.
Apply a primer suitable for your paint type and when the primer dries, lightly sand it with 220-grit sandpaper.
Now you’re ready for paint. Apply the first thin layer with a natural-bristle brush and allow paint to dry for 24 hours.
Apply two more thin coats allowing each coat to dry for 24 hours and then sit back, relax and enjoy your new painted floor!
Keep in mind that you’ll want to apply a few thin coats, especially in areas with high foot traffic. Thick layers will wear quicker because they dry much softer than thin coats.
Not only does a painted wood floor add beauty and decor, paint also helps protect wide-planked floors.
