Choosing the perfect wood floor for that special room in your house is like buying a new car - it can be difficult because of all the different options and prices. But it doesn’t have to be, as long as you do your homework and gather the necessary information for making an educated decision. That’s why we’re going to lay out the differences between prefinished and unfinished flooring for you.
Prefinished Flooring is flooring that has been sanded, stained and finished in the factory. It only requires installation and it’s ready for use. With a prefinished floor, there is no waiting for the dust to settle and the finish to dry, you can go from the packaged product to the completed job in as little as one day.
Prefinished flooring comes in a variety of exotic species like cherry, mahogany, maple and hickory to name a few. However, if you prefer a more standard option oak is the perfect choice.
Unfinished Floor is just as it sounds - it needs to be installed, stained and then finished. The process is more labor intensive and time consuming than a prefinished floor but has its advantages. The color, grade, sheen level and design are all flexible allowing you to achieve your desired look without compromise.
Most unfinished flooring comes in either red or white oak, but other foreign and domestic options are available via custom orders.
Standard 2 ¼ or 3 ¼ wide strips or specialty planks ranging from 3” to 8” are available. With unfinished flooring, you can choose from a variety of grades and custom lengths to serve your needs and taste.
