How To Warm Up A Room With Hardwood Floors

What’s worse than walking barefoot on a cold floor in the winter time? Besides walking barefoot in the snow, there’s probably not much. Find out how to keep rooms with hardwood floors warm without compromising the boards:

Step 1: You’ll need to keep an eye on the humidity level in the room. To do so, you may want to install a hygrometer. When the humidity level nears or falls below 30% turn off the heat. Drying out the wood can cause the floorboards to warp.

Step 2: Keep the windows and doors closed but open up the blinds. Allowing natural sunlight to penetrate your windows will heat the room without drying it out.

Step 3: Consider area rugs. They will keep your feet warm and can also serve as an extra layer of insulation for the entire room. In addition, they will help trap snow and moisture that can damage the wood.

Step 4: If your floor is a couple years old, it may be time to refinish it. A fresh layer of finish will help protect your floors from the elements.
