When it comes to home remodels and renovations, it can cost you a fortune. Cutting back on high-priced items is a surefire way to cut back, but there are other creative ways to save. To start, limit demolition and try to salvage items wherever possible.
Demolition isn’t always necessary, but it does always come with a high price. Think about it, you’re paying somebody to get rid of walls, break apart cabinets and remove old furniture. If you can limit the demolition and make use of what you already have, you can save big!
When it comes to the flooring, there are a number of ways to save. Take this East Boston Project for example. The old flooring was cut at an angle and the boards were pulled up from the floor. In addition, boards were taken from the washer/dryer area and used where the cabinets would go. Reusing the old wood floors to create a “new” look saved the homeowner close to $16,000.
So the next time you decide to give your home a refresher, keep in mind that it doesn’t always have to cost you an arm and a leg. Let your creative juices flow and you’ll notice a huge savings.
