From scratches and nicks to fading from the sun, your wood floors won’t look brand new forever. While normal wear and tear is inevitable, mismatching colors and patterns should be avoided at all costs - and believe it or not, successful blending isn’t nearly as complicated as you thought.
The number one cause of mismatching wood floors is sun fading. Every time you open your shades to allow natural light or fresh air in, your wood floors can fade. In order to combat this problem, you can gather samples with a few different intensities of the same exact color. Pair them with the faded section of the floor and even though it may not be exact, the differences can be minimized once furniture and area rugs are added.
In addition to choosing a similar color, you can stain your existing floors with a custom mixed color to match. Flooring experts can usually add water to a stain until it matches the sun-faded section.
If neither of these solutions works, you can try using end molding or T-molding to bridge the gaps. T-molding is often used in doorways to hide rough cuts or uneven surfaces and it masks the area with a slightly rounded or square piece of trim.
