How To Remove Scratches From Wood Floors

Has Fido gotten the best of your hardwood floors? If you have a dog, chances are they have left unsightly scratches all over your floors. Their tendencies to “dig” after they’ve gone to the bathroom, can be your floor’s worst nightmare. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way to make your floors look new again?

A good polyurethane seal is your floor’s first layer of defense against “accidents” and scratches. But this isn’t the end-all solution. Like any surface seal, it will begin to wear away over time leaving the floor more vulnerable to abuse. So what else can you do?

If the scratches aren’t too deep you can fill them in with a stain-filled marker. Give this a shot before you move onto filling them in with a wood filler.

Have a scratch, or two, that covers a very large portion of the floor? In a case like this, you’ll to bring in the sander. Sand the scratch and the areas immediately around the scratch and then reseal and stain.
