Moisture Can Be Your Floor's Worst Nightmare

You have a lot more in common with your wood floors than you might think. Sounds crazy, right? Think about how the temperature of the air inside your home affects you when it’s warm and humid. Did you know that these conditions can also affect your hardwood floors too?

It doesn’t matter if your floors are solid wood, engineered, unfinished or prefinished - when it comes warm, humid weather your wood floors can take a beating. Ever wonder why you must keep the boards inside with your home set to a certain temperature and humidity level? It’s all because when they come in contact with moisture, they can shrink, expand or shift.

With summer just around the corner you’ll want to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to go. Setting your A/C to a constant temperature during the spring and summer can help prevent the wood from shrinking and growing. We recommend a temperature between 65 and 75 degrees with a relative humidity around 40%. Deviating too far from these standards can cause your floors to shift leaving you with unpleasant gaps or spaces.
