How To Apply Finish To An Old Floor

Just because your hardwood floors are a few years old and are showing some signs of wear, doesn’t mean you need to replace them. There are a few things you can do in order to get them looking like new again, without digging deep into your wallet. See below to find out how to apply a new finish to an old wood floor:

Step 1: remove the old finish by sanding the floor down to bare wood. To do this, use a sanding machine and edge sander and be sure to vacuum between sandings.

Step 2: wipe away all dust from the floor using a damp cotton cloth.

Step 3: then you’ll need to seal the floor. Use a paintbrush to apply a base coat around the perimeter of the room.

Step 4: you can use a synthetic floor-finish applicator to spread the basecoat sealer across the rest of the floor and then let it dry for two hours. Use a clean paintbrush and floor-finish applicator to apply a topcoat.

Step 5: let this layer dry for another two hours and then you can go ahead and apply a second coat. Following the same guidelines, wait two more hours and then apply a third and final coat.
