How To Protect Wood Floors During A Renovation

Remodeling your home? We all know how messy it can get from sanding and spackling to paint and sawdust. Even dirty work boots can take a toll on your wood floors so be sure to protect them before the project begins.

  1. Vacuum and dust your hardwood floors to remove any debris that can get ground into the floor by the protective layers above.
  2. Cover any areas of the floor that will receive traffic or be exposed to dust by using plastic sheets.
  3. Lay foam board insulation on top of the plastic sheets to provide a layer of cushioning. Then place another layer of plastic on top and tape it into place with duct tape.
  4. Lay sheets of kraft paper down on top and make sure it overlaps any seams. Tape it down to prevent it from ripping easily.
