Do you hate waking up in the middle of winter because the thought of putting your feet down on the cold floor makes you cringe? Underfloor heating is the perfect solution for keeping those toes warm, but there are some things you need to know before you have them installed. Following the safety tips and guidelines below will have you enjoying warm floors when you need them most!
Keep a close eye on the surface temperature of your floors. It should never exceed 81℉ including areas near the radiator elements and under furniture and carpets.
Floors with underfloor heating are more susceptible to moisture. Wood shrinks and expands with fluctuations in humidity levels so aim to keep them as stable as possible.
Keep in mind that parquet floors and floors made from Beech and hard Maple expand and contract more than other species. Therefore, underfloor heating is not recommended with these types of woods.
Having new floors installed over underfloor heating? The working temperature of the room should be at least 64℉ and the relative humidity should be between 30 and 60%.
