Has your furry friend made a mess out of your hardwood floors? From digging and scratching to “accidents” there’s lots that you have to worry about when you have a pet. But replacing your wood floors due to a bit of damage is not one of them - here are a few ways you can make them look like new again:
When it comes to protecting your floors from your pets, keeping their nails trimmed should be a top priority. If the damage is already done, you can use a simple stain-filled marker for surface scratches. If they go deep beneath the surface, you’re going to need wood filler. Your floors can be sanded down and stained to get rid of the damage and match the rest of the floor. It’s always a good idea to start light and go darker as needed.
Couldn’t get your dog outside fast enough? Any pet owner has experienced accidents, but urine on a wood floor can be a real problem. It can penetrate the wood and reach the subfloor even if your floors are sealed which will leave you with possible stains and an unpleasant stench. You can try sanding lighter-colored stains, but if it’s a dark stain you’re going to need to replace the boards. If your pet has another accident, be sure to wipe up the mess right away.
