Silencing Your Squeaky Home

Walk across the floor: squeak. Open up the door: squeak. Crack open the window: squeak. Tired of hearing creaks and squeaks all over your home? Put and end to them once and for all with the tips below:

Wood Floors
If you can’t put up with squeaky hardwood floors any longer, you’re not alone. There are lots of reasons why your floor could be squeaking every time somebody walks across them, and most of them are simple fixes. Notice a gap in between the subfloor and a joist? Insert a shim or fill large gaps with a construction adhesive. Sometimes joists and subfloors warp or shift as a result of too much moisture in the air.

Doors
What’s causing that door to creak every time you open or close it? Most of the time, it’s just the hinge pin rubbing up against the hinge. Try squirting it with a bit of oil or coat the inside of the hinge with some grease for a fast fix.

Windows
Oftentimes, dirt and debris accumulates in window tracks which prevents them from opening and closing smoothly. The wheels can also be causing that annoying squeak each time you open or close it. Check for dirt and debris and lubricate the wheels to silence the squeak!
