Floor Finishes: Water vs. Oil

Water-Based Finishes:

Provides a clear finish
Practically odorless
A bit more expensive than oil-based finishes
In most cases, coats can be done in one day

Oil-Based Finishes:

Provides an amber glow
Requires fewer coats, but more time
Strong odor
Less expensive than water-based finishes

When it comes to answering the question, “which finish is better” there is no concrete answer. Both options provide great protection for your floors. The biggest difference when it comes to the two types of finishes is the appearance. If you’re going for a rich glow oil-based polyurethanes will do the trick and if you prefer a more natural-looking finish, water-based is your best solution.
