Surface scratches. Nicks. Dings. Keeping your hardwood floors in tip-top shape can be a real struggle, especially in high-traffic areas. And when it gets damaged, scuffed or marked homeowners tend to stress. But there’s no reason to worry, that’s what sanding is for!
People often sand their floors to repair damage, change the color or to protect their investment. Whatever the case may be, there are some things you should know before you whip out the sander and get to work. For example, there are tons of different types of sandpaper out there each with a different grit for a variety of uses. If you use the wrong one, you could end up ruining the floor.
One of the first, and most important, things you need to know about sanding is that it’s a gradual process. Your goal is to start with a coarse grit paper to remove the old coating and work your way down a finer grit to flatten and smooth the wood.
