So you finally have your hardwood floors installed, what’s next? Maintenance is, of course! This new investment is something you should be working towards protecting each day. With all of the foot traffic in your home it may seem hard to keep your floors looking pristine, but it’s actually much easier than you thought.
You’ll first want to find out the type of finish you have on your hardwood floors. Rub your finger across the surface. If there’s a smudge, you have a wax finish. If you can feel the grain of the wood, there’s a good chance it has been treated with a penetrating oil.
To restore the shine naturally, use a damp cloth to wash a small area at a time. Just be sure to dry it quickly with a towel. While water helps, it cannot be left on the wood for too long or runs the risk of warping.
If you have furry friends running around the house, you might want to keep up with the length of their nails. If you can hear a pitter-patter on your floors, it’s probably time to give them a trim! They can cause unwanted blemishes and scratches.
