New Nails. Over time, old boards can spring loose, and begin to wiggle. This is common and can usually be stopped with a new nail in the area of movement. Before hammering anything into the wood, make sure to check for any type of pipe or wires underneath!
Humidity. If you’re dealing with wood that’s shifted, causing noise, it may be due to humid rooms, or lack of moisture. Moisture causes the wood to expand and contract, which can cause gaps, and warping. To eliminate this possibility, measure the humidity levels and invest in a humidifier, if necessary.
Look Underneath. If you have access to the beams underneath your floor, check them out! Chances are, damage above can come from them too, This is caused by shifting beams, or worn out ones. If you’re experiencing an issue with these, it’s time to call a professional.
