It’s ok to think that your floors can end up fading after a period of time. Think of your wood floors in a similar fashion to your skin -- too much exposure to sunlight isn’t good. So, as homeowners, what can we do? Is there actually a way to keep your floors from fading over time. In itself, this is a pretty loaded question so we should take a step back and look at some possibilities. While we can prevent it from happening at a fast rate, there’s no real way to totally stop it. However to be proactive, there are a few things you can do

Windows
Keeping your windows closed is very important, as your glass is designed to protect you from UV and infrared rays. By closing the windows, a lot of this bounces off of the glass and away from your home, which hits your floor. This is a great way to protect your floors with glass -- double paned windows are even better! Another simple trick is to keep your blinds closed if you’re not planning on being there for a while. While warm sunlight is great, it again, can damage your windows.
UV Resistance
If you’re planning to finish your own floors, or get them redone, consider a finish with some sort of UV protection inside of it.Though these products can’t completely stop the process from happening, we can only be grateful that there’s a product to at least slow it down from happening at all. Additionally, it’s a good idea to use water based finishes which perform much better. As an added bonus, look into a pigment based stain over a dye stain, which has the ability to keep its color far longer than its competitor.
