Fixing Gaps In Your Hardwood Flooring

Walking across a nice, flat floor is likely one of the best feelings in your home. With modern wood flooring, there are so many different types of planks and styles for you to choose from. However what does come with older flooring, is gaps between the boards. While this might not seem like it’s a big deal, it is a sign of negative space somewhere in your room and should be remedied as soon as possible. We’ve got a few quick fixes for those hardwood floors, should this happen to you.

String

One of the easiest methods to fixing smaller gaps is to add dyed string between the planks. Soak this string in the same stain used to finish your flooring and allow it to dry. From there, wedge it between the planks and trim the edges once you have the rest fitted into place. While this is a temporary fix, it can last a while and help you rid the gaps until you’re ready to move forward more.

Humidity

It’s worth checking the humidity in your home before doing anything crazy with your flooring. This is because high or low humidity can have an effect on the flooring you walk on, and can cause it to shift. Instead of thinking the worst, consider assessing the humidity levels and make changes to see how it might help bring your flooring back together.

Fillers

There are a number of different fillers that can be put between wood gaps, and they come in a ton of colors. This can effectively close the gap on old flooring, which is a great way to eliminate pesky gaps in between them.

Of course, if you’re going to be redoing your flooring, you’ll need the supplies to get the job done. Make sure that by doing so, you’re heading somewhere to accommodate your need for supplies — at Hall Flooring, we can do that!
