There are a ton of ways you can keep cool this summer, and without taking a page from your pet’s book, it’s quite easy! Skip laying on the floor and hop right to some of the options that will not only keep you from overheating, but save you a bit of money over the course of the next few years. We’ve got a few tips and tricks below that you should consider trying if the temperature ever spikes.
Damp Sheets & Windows
You know that cross ventilation is achieved by opening windows on either sides of the house, allowing them to pass through — but what about for dry days? The answer is simple! Grab a bedsheet and dampen it — from there, wring it out so it’s not dripping and drape it over an open window. When the wind blows, cool moist air will filter through the house, keeping humidity levels in check and keeping your temperature down. This is also healthy for your floors!
Avoid The Oven
Cooking requires heat, and in the summer, we’ve got enough of that outside. In order to break away from that, make sure you’re cooking outdoors, and not leaving the oven open after you’re done cooking. If you must, see if there are windows nearby to open — this will help filter that hot air out and balance the room’s temperature.
Utilize Your Fixtures
An easy way to save on cooling is to make yourself cooler! Lower the heat on your hot water heater for the summer — you won’t need it. Additionally, take advantage of the food that’s best served cold, such as fruit, yogurt and more. As a last ditch effort, place a fan underneath the vent where cold air also comes out of. This small increase in energy will push it around the house, cooling areas much faster!
