Fixes For Buckling Flooring

So your wood flooring isn’t performing the job you thought it would? No fear to be had just yet — this happens to many homeowners! Buckling wood floors can happen for a number of reasons, and they sometimes can be way out of your control. In order to figure out what’s causing it to happen, one must look at a few things, and assess how it can be fixed. Take a look below to figure out what it is you need to do to prevent or fix this issue in your own home!

Replacing The Plank

Starting with one of the more extreme measures, removing the wood plank and replacing it with a new one might be the better of the options at hand if you’re unable to salvage your planks. Instead, drill two holes at the end of your planks, and use a chisel or thin apparatus to remove the old plank. From here, obtain another plank that can fit within the opening (or cut it to fit), and affix it into the hole.

Humidity Levels

As a last ditch effort for the smaller buckling efforts, there is something you might be able to also do in terms of changing the humidity levels. As we know, moist air is absorbed by the wood planks and this can lead to expanding, buckling, splintering, and a number of other wood problems. By buying a dehumidifier and placing it into the room in which you’re having issues, you can effectively reduce humidity, which may suck moisture out of the wood and make the planks rest in their intended locations.
